Top Gun contest to be staged at Nationals 2008
Having decided that the format of Top Gun would be changed to work like any other model show, and thus genuinely find the “Best Display Pilot in the Country”, we encountered a number of hurdles that could not be overcome in time to stage the event as a stand-alone show in 2008 (as had previously been unofficially announced).
Therefore, the BMFA Council has reluctantly decided that the Top Gun competition will be held, for 2008 only, on the Showline at the August Power Nationals at RAF Barkston Heath on 23rd and 24th August.
Those wishing to enter the Top Gun competition should complete the “Showline Pilots” entry form that will be included in BMFA News issue 88 (due to be printed at the end of May). Copies of the form will also be made available from the BMFA Office and by download from www.bmfa.org, as will the full rules for the event.
A number of vacancies exist in the team to run the flightline of the combined Showline / Top Gun. Anybody wishing to help out should initially contact the BMFA office on 0116 2440028 or by email to admin@bmfa.org. Names will be passed on to the organisers.
Normal display flying that is not part of the Top Gun competition will also be included on the Showline.
This arrangement is only for 2008. It is our intention to run Top Gun as a full model show in 2009.
