Mike Goldby
It is with a heavy heart that I have to inform you of the death of Mike Goldby on Friday December 4th. Mike had been fighting cancer for the past twelve months and passed away peacefully at home with his family around him.
Mike had spent some thirty years in the Royal Air Force entering as an apprentice and working his way up to the rank of Squadron Leader in the engineering branch. On retiring from the RAF he worked for a short time in industry before joining the BMFA as Development Officer and the increase in affiliation and the consequential increase in membership through the first years of the twenty first century, was very much down to his drive and enthusiasm.
On his retirement he remained active within the association and was about to become our Honorary Secretary when his illness forced him to stand down although he continued to serve on the Scale Technical Committee. Mike’s other great interest was in sailing, a sport that he and his wife Kim enjoyed together.
His interest in aeromodelling was right across the board from Free Flight through Control Line to Radio Control but his abiding passion was for Scale in which discipline he represented his country as team manager and competitor at both World and Continental level.
Mike will be greatly missed throughout the aeromodelling world for a long time to come.
Our thoughts and condolences are with Kim and the rest of the family at this difficult time.
Please contact the office if you would like details of the funeral arrangements.
