F1D TEAM SELECTION TRIALS FOR 2009 EUROPEAN CHAMPIONSHIPS

The selection Trials were held as 3 separate contests with the best 2 results for each contestant to count towards Team selection. The best 2 flights from 6 determined the result which is presented as a percentage of the leader’s score and these determined the final placings. The models were flown using 1/3 motors (0.2g) with 0.4g ballast spacers.

All 3 contests were held at the Werrington Sports Centre, Peterborough.

John and Mark made the biggest improvements in their scores after the 1st Trials; John attributed this mainly to more accurate measurement of length and weight of each individual motor. The results are most encouraging for the current health of UK indoor flying but we do need more fliers!

Come Fly with Us 2009

The 2009 N0-Cal Challenge was introduced on page 12 of this months (Feb 2009) BMFA News unfortunately there is a small error which the Indoor technical Committee apologise for and are attempting to advise all of well in advance of the forthcoming meetings.

Rule 3 should have read `a plastic propeller may be used’

Please accept our apologies for this oversight and we trust this will not spoil your Challenge.

Round 1 Indoor Duration F1D Trials

Round 1 of the Indoor Duration F1D trials for this Summers European Championships in Sebia took place over two days 10th & 11th December at a new CAT 1 (25ft) venue in Peterborough.

With temperatures outside well below freezing  it was questioned whether this untried venue would yield a good environment to fly in, thankfully any scepticism was short lived with good conditions seen on day one, diminishing only very slightly with the obvious effects of the strong winds outside on Sunday.

The competition is run using 1/3rd (0.2grams) rubber motors with a spacer to simulate the other 0.4grams. Competition was as keen as ever with last years World Championship trio setting the highest scores on day 1. On Day 2 with a slight ground turbulance scores were harder to attain until the last 2 rounds where a number of personal best duration flights were achieved. All attending enjoyed the venue and the competition and are looking forward to round 2. Refer Contest Calendar for further information.

John Shaw (left) had his best ever F1D flying times using a 1/3rd motor to gain 4th place.
